Free Silhouette Quilt Along!

If you heard about the Quilt Your Own Adventure blog on the Just Wanna Quilt Podcast… welcome! The quilt above is the one Elizabeth (ETG) and I were talking about.
Hi guys, Shelly here! We’re kicking off our first quilt along on Wednesday June 6th and we’re super excited. The name of our blog was partially inspired by the quilt above. Some friends of mine had a baby recently and this is what I made for them (on the label I named it “Let’s Go Exploring” but I usually just call it the Calvin and Hobbes Quilt or the Silhouette Quilt).
Stacy and Theresa helped me along every step of the way with applique advice and help making a quilting plan (and actually executing it too). Stacy mentioned that she might like to do a similar one but would do a different background and a different silhouette… And the idea for a choose your own adventure quilt along was born!
- Choose your quilt top pattern/layout
- Choose your colorway and fabric
- Choose your silhouette applique image
Choose your own adventure! We’ll all get to do a fun project while sharing our progress and being inspired by what everyone else is up to. Plus since we’ve done this style of quilt before we’ll have some tips to share along the way (including how to get a really big applique onto a quilt even if you don’t have access to a projector). At the end everyone will have a super cool quilt that is as unique as you want it to be.
Coming up over the next three weeks Stacy, Theresa and I will share a basic pattern for the quilt top layout that each of us have chosen.
SPOILER ALERT! My layout is going to be precut friendly! So, if you want to play along and are fond of precuts keep your eyes peeled for a layer cake and two charm packs (42 pieces each) without too much contrast.
EVEN MORE SPOILERS! Stacy’s layout will be charm pack friendly, and Theresa is going to do some scrap-busting. Food for thought!
If you decide to play along find us on Facebook or Instagram and let us know!
Happy adventuring!

[…] instead of by hand to avoid it taking months and months (for what it’s worth though I did my Calvin and Hobbes quilt applique by hand and really enjoyed it). Skip down to Theresa’s Stuffs if you want to try it […]
