Tree Swing at Sunset Silhouette

Hi folks…. I’m real sorry it’s been such a long time since our last post… *stares at shoes*. We’ve been super busy with just life in general… *kicks the dirt* .. and quilting all kinds of things! We hope you can forgive us! *gives the biggest best puppy dogs eyes ever*
Wow it’s been a busy wrap up to the end of summer! There have been vacations and family visits and the Iowa state fair – which of course includes the quilt show and competition. And then there’s the Des Moines Area Quilt Guild (DMAQG) Quilt show and competition. Our little quilting group did super well and had even more fun attending and participating in these. More to come soon on all that!
But most importantly – we’ve been quilting like fiends! And I’m happy to finally reveal my Tree Swing Sunset Silhouette!!
The colors may be a bit off in these pics. It turns out taking a picture of a sunset quilt AT SUNSET is not the best choice for lighting – ha! It’s a big ‘un! My husband is 6’1″ and this is his him holding it with arms above his head!
I couldn’t be more happy with how this beauty turned out! On the binding, I did a faux piping, and I switched the colors on the side with the sunset. I think it adds such a small but important border to the scene.
The sunset rays quilting pattern was my husband’s idea – genius! And it really sets off the whole quilt!
Detail added to the trunk of the tree inspired by a previous project of Theresa’s! (That’s R+S if you can’t see it well… Robert + Stacy… Awe!!!!)
Here you can see a tid bit more detail added in the quilting, 2 little birds in the distance. And this also shows the quilting on the leaves well. I cut some voids where the light peeks through the leaves and branches. I had considered doing more of that, but yowza it was a task!
And lastly, my quilt label. I had fun with this one, I even appliqued the little swing seat and stitched the ropes. I’ll forever remember our quilt-a-long and everything I learned with this. It’s been super fun!
